Exporting Your Data: Ownership in Action
We believe you should own your audience and content. Learn how to easily export your subscriber lists and content archives from Postion at any time.
At Postion, "ownership" isn't just a marketing buzzword—it's a core technical feature. We believe that if you can't leave, you don't truly own your business. That's why we make it incredibly easy to pack up and leave if you ever decide to.
Here is how to export your most valuable assets: your audience and your content.
1. Exporting Your Subscribers
Your email list is the lifeblood of your creator business. You can download a full list of your subscribers, including their status and join date, at any time.
Steps to Export:
- Go to Your Dashboard: Navigate to the specific Site you want to export data from.
- Navigate to Subscribers: Click on "Subscribers" in the left sidebar.
- Click Export: Look for the "Export CSV" button in the top right corner of the subscriber list.
- Download: A
.csvfile will immediately download to your device.
What's in the CSV?
The file contains standard columns compatible with almost any other email marketing tool (like Mailchimp, ConvertKit, or Substack):
email: The subscriber's email address.name: The subscriber's name (if provided).status: Active, Unsubscribed, or Bounced.tier: Free or the name of their paid tier.created_at: The date they joined.
2. Exporting Your Content
Your words, images, and intellectual property belong to you. We provide a standardized export format that makes it easy to back up your work or move to another platform (like Ghost or WordPress).
Steps to Export:
- Go to Settings: From your Site Dashboard, click on "Settings" in the sidebar.
- Navigate to Advanced: Scroll down to the "Advanced" or "Danger Zone" section.
- Select Export Content: Click the "Export All Content" button.
- Receive Your Archive:
- For smaller sites, the download will start immediately.
- For larger sites with many images, we will generate a
.zipfile and email you a secure download link within a few minutes.
What's in the Archive?
The .zip file contains:
- Posts: All your articles in
.md(Markdown) or.jsonformat, preserving your formatting, links, and metadata (title, date, tags). - Images: A folder containing all the media files you've uploaded to your posts.
3. Leaving Postion (We'll Miss You!)
If you decide to move to another platform, we want your transition to be smooth.
- Redirects: If you are using a custom domain, you simply need to point your DNS records to your new host. Your links will remain the same.
- Stripe: Since you connected your own Stripe account, your billing relationships remain intact. You may need to migrate your subscription data to your new platform's billing system, which Stripe support can assist with.
Our Promise: We will never hold your data hostage. If you ever have trouble exporting your data, please contact [email protected], and we will manually assist you in retrieving your files.
