Migration Guide: Move to Postion Seamlessly

We know that moving your content archive can feel like a daunting task. That's why we've engineered our migration tools to be as simple, fast, and seamless as possible. This guide will walk you through the process for the most popular platforms.

Before you start, please know:

• ✅ It's Free: We do not charge anything for you to import your content.
• ✅ Your Content is Safe: The import process creates copies on Postion; it does not remove anything from your original site.
• ✅ What Gets Imported: We import your posts, articles, images, and core content. Some platform-specific theme settings or comment threads may not carry over.

2. How to Migrate from WordPress

Migrating from a self-hosted WordPress site or WordPress.com is straightforward.

• Step 1: Export Your Content from WordPress

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Tools -> Export.
  3. Under "Choose what to export," select "All content."
  4. Click the "Download Export File" button. An .xml file will be saved to your computer.

• Step 2: Import Your Content to Postion

  1. Log in to your Postion dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings -> Import.
  3. Click on the "WordPress" option.
  4. Upload the .xml file you just downloaded.
  5. The import process will begin. Depending on the size of your site, this may take a few minutes. We will notify you when it's complete.

3. How to Migrate from Substack

Substack allows you to export your posts and subscriber list in a zip file.

• Step 1: Export Your Archive from Substack

  1. Log in to your Substack dashboard.
  2. Navigate to your Settings page.
  3. Scroll down to the "Exports" section and click the "Export your posts" link.
  4. Substack will prepare your archive and email you a link to download a .zip file.
  5. Download and unzip the file on your computer. You will find a posts.csv file inside.

• Step 2: Import Your Content to Postion

  1. In your Postion dashboard, go to Settings -> Import.
  2. Click on the "Substack" option.
  3. Upload the posts.csv file from your unzipped archive.
  4. Our system will process the file and import your articles.

4. How to Migrate from Medium

You can request a full archive of your Medium content.

• Step 1: Download Your Information from Medium

  1. Log in to your Medium account.
  2. Go to Settings -> Account.
  3. Scroll down to the "Download your information" section and click "Download .zip".
  4. Medium will prepare your archive and email you a download link.
  5. Download and unzip the file. Your articles will be in the posts folder as .html files.

• Step 2: Import Your Content to Postion

  1. In your Postion dashboard, go to Settings -> Import.
  2. Click on the "Medium" option.
  3. Follow the instructions to upload the .html files from your posts folder.
